Mpho Popps on how his mother met his stepdad
Many of Mpho Popps’ followers were shocked to learn that his father, (as Mpho referred to him as dad) was white.
During a segment on his podcast earlier this year, Popps spoke at length about his stepfather for the first time, sharing details of how his mom met and fell in love with the white, Danish businessman.
“My stepfather is white. He’s a white, Danish man.
“How they met was, he was on a business trip in South Africa setting up a company, and he lived next to our house, so we were neighbours.
“We were living in Mondeor at the time, at Club Tuscany. So, I was a teenager when my stepdad came into my life, I think 12 or 13. They were setting up a factory here, because my stepdad is a chemical engineer, so they were setting up a plant and a factory here.
“His company bought the unit next to us where he was staying while he was in South Africa, so while he was there he went to the shops one day and sees this Valentines setup.
“So, he doesn’t know what’s going on because in Denmark they don’t celebrate Valentines Day, so he asks and they explain it to him at the shops, this is the day you buy someone you love flowers, or a teddy bear or chocolates and you give it to them.
“So, he bought these things for my mom, and at the time they were just neighbours, and he gave it to her. Now you can imagine, a black mom who’s never received flowers, and she was just like, what’s going on?
