A US jury has sided with Johnny Depp in his libel suit against ex-wife Amber Heard after six weeks of fiery testimony.
In the high-profile defamation lawsuit involving Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard, a jury made a decision on Wednesday.
Before the verdict could be read, the judge sent the jury back to add damage amounts.
Shortly later, a Northern Virginia jury ruled in Depp’s favour, ruling that Heard had defamed him by falsely accusing him of domestic abuse.
In his defamation claim, Depp was awarded R232 million in damages, with R150 million in compensatory damages and R 77 million in punitive damages.
Heard was also given R31 million in compensatory damages by the jury.

Heard took to social media to express how she felt following the court ruling.
Heard wrote “I’m even more disappointed with what this verdict means for other women. It is a setback. It sets back the clock to a time when a woman who spoke up and spoke out could be publicly shamed and humiliated. It sets back the idea that violence against women is to be taken seriously.”

Depp also shared a statement where he said he finally has his life back.
“The jury gave me my life back. I am truly humbled,” he said.
“From the very beginning, the goal of bringing this case was to reveal the truth, regardless of the outcome. Speaking the truth was something that I owed to my children and to all those who have remained steadfast in their support of me.” wrote Depp.
