Lamiez Holworthy and Khuli Chana may be relishing their roles as new parents, but their “new age” parenting style has rubbed social media the wrong way.
The couple who recently let the world know that their baby boy had made his entrance into the world, came under fire for taking their 1-month old out to a public place.
“It’s against our culture. It’s not okay. We live in a society with norms and values we know since growing up. Khuli is Tswana and he knows this ain’t it!”
“1-month old out in public? Come on. Culture aside, a newborn’s immune system is so fragile. The baby should not be out and about.”
“It is a shame that Africans are abandoning their culture, taking up other cultures all in the name of being modern and civilized.”
Some believe that as a new mother, Lamiez should keep her newborn at home and away from prying eyes. With others saying that in black culture a newborn’s presence must be celebrated only by close family to protect the baby until he or she reaches 3-months.
It seems neither Lamiez nor Khuli Chana is allowing culture to dictate how they take on their new journey as parents however, with the first-time mom already sharing Instagram-able moments with her followers.
The celebrity DJ shared a snap of her and her baby boy at a restaurant when he was 1-month old on her Instagram stories.
This means the celebrity couple welcomed their son last month but kept the news under wraps until he turned a month old.
Neither Lamiez, nor Khuli Chana have responded to criticism about their parenting.
