Innocent Sadiki stars opposite, Sipho Eric Ndlovu in the film and the two play husband and wife.
She plays Mahlatse from a royal Sepedi family, and the story is an authentic South African representation of the Bapedi culture.
Sadiki had to learn more about how a royal wife carries herself, and built her character with that in mind.
The film’s director, Percy L. Maboane, is also the director on Skeem Saam.
It took years for the film to be picked up by Netflix, but Sadiki said that the producers were set on getting the film onto an international platform.
While there were a number of offers from local channels to feature The Throne, the team were not going to settle and finally managed to get the film onto Netflix South Africa.
The ambitious actress wants to produce and direct her own projects and is working towards those goals.
