Former Kaizer Chiefs striker George Lebese has denied assaulting his wife at a Rosebank nightclub earlier this week.
Initial reports suggested that Lebese and his wife were involved in a public altercation which became physical. It was alleged that Lebese accused his wife, Mapaseka “Melba” Nkosi of kissing Bongani Zungu.
Zungu plays for Mamelodi Sundowns and is currently dating actress Cindy Mahlangu, who gave birth to their baby in June.
However, Lebese squashed rumours that his wife had cheated on him saying the reason for their fight was over a call she had received.
In a statement, Lebese denied that he had assaulted his wife, although she did complete gender-based violence forms at the Rosebank police station.
“It’s not true that we fought over him, people are making it up because his football career is on another level.
The truth is we had an argument outside the club over a phone call that she received, not because of that person.”

Patrons at the club called the police to intervene because the couple’s public spat had allegedly gotten so ugly.
These claims did not sit well with George Lebese however, and he said that if it was that serious his wife would have filed charges against him.
Rosebank SAPS confirmed that neither party pressed charges and there’s no confirmation on whether Nkosi was going to go through with the application for a protection order.
