DStv has confirmed that the speculations about the cancellation of The Queen as well as Lingashoni are indeed true.
Last week, Entertainment blogger Phil Mphela was under fire after he revealed the scoop, from his source of the news; which was subsequently denied by Ferguson Films.
On Friday, 4th March, DStv released a statement confirming that Mzansi Magic’s The Queen and 1Magic’s Lingashoni will have their final seasons between January and March 2023.

In the statement, the channel says the final episode of The Queen will air on 13 January 2023 and that the last episode of Lingashoni will air on 16 March 2023.
“The Queen’s producers, Ferguson Films, will shoot season seven of the show, which will premiere in July 2022 and viewers will continue to enjoy the telenovela on their screens until its final episode airs on 13 January 2023,” read the statement.
After a multi-season run of local telenovelas The Queen and Lingashoni, Mzansi Magic and 1Magic will be exploring new avenues to entertain its viewers in order to keep up with their evolving desire for local content.

The Queen began airing back in August 2016 and has celebrated unprecedented milestones such as 1 000-episodes in August 2020.
The series also did a first in local telenovelas with a historic crossover episode with 1Magic telenovela The River – a first for M-Net local productions.
The channel also thanked the entire crew for the sterling work they have put in over the years.
“As the M-Net Local Entertainment channels, we would like to applaud the producers, cast and crew of The Queen and Lingashoni for their dedication to delivering riveting storylines and award-winning content in highly contested primetime slots.”
“We look forward to the thrills of the next 12 months as both productions draw towards their respective finales,” says Shirley Adonisi, Director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net.
