Celebrated South African artist Dr. Esther Mahlangu recently celebrated her 88th birthday at her home with her family.
Mahlangu has over the year flown the country’s flag with her collections being viewed across the world in places like the US, Japan, Germany, France, and other countries.
Her accolades include the 2006 Order of Ikhamanga, silver class, from the South African government; in addition, she has received awards from the French Ministry of Culture, the Mpumalanga Arts and Culture Award, Radio Ndebele, and other South African and international organizations.

In videos shared on TikTok, Mahlangu is seen beaming at the vibrant celebration of her 88th birthday dressed in traditional attire.

Iconic Esther Mahlangu BMW 525i returns to South Africa after 32 years
Earlier this month it was announced that the 32-year-old, iconic BMW 525i, which was painted by the painted by the 88-year-old Mahlangu, will be making a return visit from the United States.
She was the first female artist to work on the sedan, giving it the distinctive and vibrant look of a BMW Art Car.
