The high court has ordered Nota to cough up R200k in damages to DJ Shimza following a defamation case against the music boss.
This comes after Nota tweeted in 2021 that Shimza is corrupted and has been benefiting from government money.
In the judgement delievered yesterday ,12 August 2022, the court deemed Nota’s post as reckless and slammed him for turning court proceedings into a joke.
Nota will be paying damages to DJ Shimza as well as costs incurred in the case.
“An allegation of corruption should not be made lightly. Such an allegation is most serious in relation to the standing of a person.”
“I consider that the defendant (Nota) published the statements without regard to consequences. This was also illustrated by his evidence. He said whatever came into his head and contradicted himself within the same breath.
“His recklessness was ultimately shown by his evidence that having to answer in court was a waste of his time,” acting judge Omphemetse Mooki was quoted by Times Live.
