The memorial service for slain Pretoria businessman and musician DJ Sumbody took place on Wednesday in Centurion, Gauteng.
Speaking at the memorial close friend and business partner Cassper Nyovest shared his fondest memorial of DJ Sumbody.
He recalls after his historic performance of their song Monate Mpolaye at the Global Citizen Festival in 2018, the late DJ joked that he should’ve brought him onto the stage so he could perform for Beyonce.
Cassper describes Sumbody, real name Oupa Sefoka, as an old soul who’s very grounded and rooted. “It was like you had a father and a friend in one person,” he adds.
The Maftown-born rapper is forever grateful for what he’s learned from Oupa and their friendship.
He was his go-to person whenever he had challenges.
“Whether you had a problem, whether it was business or personal there was one person (pauses and breaks down in tears). you could always call.
“He was one person you could always call. You could be brutally honest with him and he wouldn’t take offense.”
No matter how many times they fought or disagreed, they always found a way to work out their difference.
“I’m going to miss you. I love you. My prayers go out. to his family,” said Cassper Nyovst.
