Gospel singer Bucy Radebe confirms she’s finally been paid by DJ Cleo after months of him ignoring her emails.
Radebe says it was only after she threatened him with legal action did he eventually send her payment for overdue royalties.
DJ Cleo, whose real name is Tlou Cleopas Monyepao collaborated with Busy Radebe on Gcina Impilo Yam (Remix) which was a huge success.
The 2021 track was viewed over 20 million times on YouTube and performed well on other music streaming platforms too.
In an interview with TshisaLive, Radebe said she felt disheartened that she was not receiving anything for her contribution on the song.
She said although there was a contract in place, DJ Cleo had not honoured the agreement to pay her a percentage of the royalties which were to be paid quarterly.
According to Radebe, the DJ had initially wanted to pay the singer a once-off feature fee, but this didn’t work for her.
“There were 5 emails that Cleo ignored and I had to instruct my attorney to take legal action to make sure he complies with the contract and we have confirmation from the distributors that they have been paying him.
I also know that YouTube pays every month because we do our own distribution, so there’s no excuse for his action rather than disrespecting me and my company.”
