‘Themba’ marks actress Mbali Mavimbela’s return to the screen after her role on ‘The Wife’

Acclaimed South African actress Mbalenhle Mavimbela is captivating audiences, this time in the lead role of the impactful film Themba.
The movie is currently gaining significant traction across the country, following its recent showing at the Waterloo Film Festival from 4th to 6th July 2025.
Themba delves into themes of grief, love, and the personal quest for redemption. Mavimbela stars opposite Ntando Mncube, who portrays her husband in the film.
The actress, widely recognised for her powerful performance in the popular series The Wife, revealed that Themba marks her first project since concluding her work on the hit show.
Adding a touch of irony, Mavimbela shared a delightful tidbit about her on-screen partnership with Mncube:
“First project I shot after The Wife and the hardest part was having to play wifie to my enemy 🤣 oMajola.”
She expressed her enjoyment of working with Mncube, congratulating him on his nomination, and extended her gratitude to director Luthando Mngomezulu for his trust and for imparting new skills.
