Theatre legend, Dawn Lindberg has died of a COVID-19 related illness. The 75-year-old founded the Naledi Awards in 2004, which celebrate talent in South African Theatre.
Dawn Lindberg was born in Durban and, during her decades long love affair with the arts, was an actress, musician, author, director, stage designer and motivational speaker. Much of her work during apartheid was rooted in activism fighting to integrate the theatre.

Aside from her love for the theatre, Dawn Lindberg was known for her music as part of the duo, Des and Dawn Lindeberg with her husband Des Lindberg.
Naledi Awards Chairperson and award-winning actress, Kgomotso Christopher spoke to Kaya Breakfast about Lindberg saying, “Even before you meet her, you’ve met her. If you are a student of theatre or know anything about South African theatre history.”
