The Democratic Alliance (DA) has called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to enforce level 4 lockdown regulations at former President Jacob Zuma’s homestead in Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal, after thousands of Zuma supporters gathered there.
John Steenhuisen, leader of the DA, said “the scenes currently unfolding outside Jacob Zuma’s homestead at Nkandla, which have broken almost every lockdown level 4 regulation gazetted, are fast morphing into a dangerous and volatile Covid-19 super spreader event threatening the lives of countless South Africans.”

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) reported 16,585 new COVID-19 cases on 4 July.
Scenes this weekend showed crowds involved in a stand-off with police, who blocked roads to Nkandla. However, blocks were removed after negotiations with supporters.
Steenhuisen said the gathering showed disregard for the pandemic and the dangers it poses, as well as contempt for the rule of law, and that lockdown regulations need to be enforced.
It is unthinkable that while citizens and businesses have had to endure devastating losses to adhere to level 4 restrictions, members of the ANC and Zuma can seemingly break them without consequence.

“If President Ramaphosa wants the nation to believe that he has placed the country above his party, he must ensure that Jacob Zuma and his supporters are held to the same standards as any other South African” said Steenhuisen.

People delta is killing people like flies, I feel sorry for the #JZsupporters in Nkandla, and should the Pres C.R stay quiet on the matter and people die then it will be said that he never cared about those in NKANDLA… shame man…

Whether it’s tainted by Marikana or not the lack of police action at Nkandla has severely degraded SAPS public image and their moral high ground. Rules are not applied equally, some are more equal than others. That has been made clear. Provocation or not.
