The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng is calling on the Gauteng Department of Education to probe allegations of sexual misconduct against a female teacher at Afrikaans Hoërskool Germiston.
This after several complaints were received by DA Gauteng Spokesperson, Sergio dos Santos MPL, over a female teacher at the school allegedly engaging in sexual relations with students.
According to dos Santos, the teached is still continuing her employment at the school, despite the principal and deputy principal being fully aware of the allegations.
“The rise of sexual misconduct cases in Gauteng schools is not a joke. Over the past 5-years, about 300 cases were reported nationally, and 173 cases were recorded in Gauteng schools alone.
The DA does not take this lightly and will be submitting questions to the MEC to ascertain when he will investigate this serious matter.
The DA strongly believes that schools are meant to be safe havens for learning and teaching.
No child should be abused, led astray, and preyed upon by malicious adults.
If these allegations are found to be true, the perpetrator must be dismissed from her duties, and left to officials to enforce the necessary law.”
The Gauteng Department of Education who did not release a statement regarding the allegations at Afrikaans Hoërskool Germiston, were not available for comment.
