The opening of the Charlotte Manye Maxeke treatment centre in Bothshabelo comes amid high tension in Ga-Rankuwa over rampant drug and crime in the area.
The centre is set to employ 100 people permanently, most of whom will be women.
The theme for this year’s Freedom Day, “The year of Charlotte Maxeke: The meaning of freedom under COVID-19,” was the motivation for the centre.
News of the centre opening has been received with mixed reviews by South Africans who have voiced their distaste on social media, vehemently expressing that freedom still evades millions of South Africans.
