The COVID-19 positivity rate has hit a new high of 12.7%, suggesting that the country has entered the third wave. It has also recorded the latest infections in months. According to the department of health, 5,782 new cases have been reported.
Gauteng is responsible for about 3,000 of these cases.

It has also witnessed the most deaths, accounting for 54 of the 110 new deaths. The recuperation rate has also decreased marginally, and it is currently 93.5%. The agency said it will keep an eye on the figures to determine whether the trend continues. It is urging South Africans, particularly those in Gauteng, to follow COVID-19 safety guidelines.
