Brenda Fassie fans will be delighted to know that the late singer’s son Bongani Fassie is on a mission to bring his mother’s classics back to life.
Her untimely death shocked the country as it came at the height of her career and after the release of her 2003 hit album Mali.
Brenda Fassie passed away in May 2004 at the age of 39 was one of South Africa’s most celebrated pop singers, affectionately called the “Queen of Pop” and “Madonna of the Townships”.
Bongani Fassie has not released new music since his last album Rise in 2013 but many have responded energetically to the producer’s subtle social media hint that new music is loading.
To honour his mom’s legacy, Bongani will be teaming up with some of SA’s hottest Amapiano artists, Focalistic, Lady Du and Mr JazziQ. He intended to rope in the late Mpura, who passed away earlier this week in a car accident.
Bongani is Brenda Fassie’s only son who followed in his mom’s musical footsteps. The question is which of his mother’s classics will he be breathing life into?
