At the beginning of the Winter Season we embarked on a mission to visit four primary schools in Etwatwa with the objective of helping thousands of young people to prepare for the cold season ahead. An important aspect of that included working in partnership with Ster Kinekor Vision Mission and Opti Eyewear, who gave learners eye tests during the campaign.
This culminated in two hundred learners from Silindokuhle, Sazakhele, Barcelona and George Mbilase Primary Schools in Etwatwa being presented with new eye spectacles as part of the campaign. Ster Kinekor also organized a day of fun at the movies where the learners were given the opportunity to watch the new Lion King movie followed by a delicious lunch at Spur, Northmead Square Shopping Centre.
“Our aim is to help the children and protect them. The earlier we detect the problem of hearing impairment and the degenerative of the eye sight, the better it is for us to find solutions to help the learners, “said Geraldine Engelman, CSI Manager, Ster Kinekor Vision Mission.
“We find hope in educating our future leaders. Our mandate is to make education accessible to everyone especially the disadvantaged schools. It is important for us to assist in providing the necessary tools and support for our schools to receive a quality education, ” expressed Kaya Cares’ Nokwanda Mkhize.
Kaya Cares would like to thank all our sponsors; Ster Kinekor Vision Mission, Coca Cola, Meals on Wheels, Shoes for Souls and Akunamlilo Fire Fighters for making this Brave Winter possible. We would also like to send a special thank you to all our listeners for helping us with their generous donations.
