A 28-year old man has been arrested at Braam Fischer airport in Bloemfontein in relation to a bomb scare.
The man was found with a drill grenade in his luggage at the check-in counter.
Members of the bomb disposal unit were on scene to recover the explosive.
The airport had to be evacuated and a flight to Cape Town was redirected.
A thirty minute shut down at the airport was necessary to ensure the safety of all passengers and staff.
Operations at the airport have resumed following the bomb scare.
Officials have taken the suspect in for questioning and he will be held accountable for possession of the explosive.
The incident comes after an arson attempt on Parliament over the weekend.
