A tweep tweeted that Davido took Amapiano from South Africa and made it a successful genre abroad.
He added that Wizkid getting into the genre helped expose it to more people.
However, DJ Maphorisa disagreed with the statement. He argued that he and Kabza De Small were the first to put Wizkid and Burna Boy on a yanos record three years ago. “Research before you tweet,” he told the guy.
Davido responded to Maphorisa’s tweet saying that “he never liked him” even though he’s been nothing but good to the producer.
You’ve never liked me y ? I’ve always been good to you …. Anyways ! AWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY NOW!!!!!! Chu chu chu chu chu https://t.co/0Gi2l0HVEp

In Maphorisa’s defence, Sponono featuring Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Cassper came out in 2020, a year before Focalistic dropped Ke Star remix with Davido.
So Maphorisa is right in saying he and Kabza were the first to take Amapiano abroad, however, one can’t overlook the role Davido played in helping Amapiano become a global phenomenon.
