MaBlerh believes that people place too much pressure on their partner’s to deliver extravagance on Valentine’s Day.
The Kaya 959 Weekend Update presenter says, “If you have the money, by all means go for it. But don’t make it this Olympic race for your partner to jump through hoops just to impress you.”
He feels that the secret to a successful relationship is to keep things private for as long as possible.
“The minute you make your relationship social media official, it’s no longer yours. It’s now OUR relationship and that’s when everyone gets involved. Now, instead of it being just about the two of you, the focus becomes about updating your followers about the status of your love life.”

His new single, Gone, which is a song about breaking up touches on how we’re so obsessed about societal standards on our relationships and that is ultimately what destroys partnerships today.
Making a fuss, with rose petals and these big gestures just for an Instagram-able post only to treat your significant other poorly in reality is the norm.
Everyone wants to be spoiled and have their partner cater to their every need but what does this mean in reality?
“It means that before you even get to know a person, you need to know if they can afford you. Can they afford to wine and dine me? Do they have the means to plan romantic weekends away? Yes, everyone would like to date a rich person but realistically, we’re turning love and romance into something fickle with this mindset,” MaBlerh said.
Take Valentine’s Day for example, a day that is supposed to be an intimate celebration of your love has turned into a commercialised day.
It’s become more about how much you’re spending on the day as opposed to how you show your partner what they mean to you.
The idea that romance is a white horse-drawn carriage through the city while you’re snuggling up to your partner after a lavish dinner is an unrealistic expectation.
Life isn’t a fairytale or Hollywood rom-com but if that is your standard, then let it be known from the start.
Dinner at a fancy restaurant isn’t MaBlerh’s idea of a perfect Valentine’s date night. He believes there’s just too many distractions and there’s nothing relaxed about a night out.
“I don’t want to have a waiter interrupt us every few minutes when I want to spend time with my person. A night in, with a good bottle of wine and a nice home-cooked meal is a lot more intimate and special than a packed restaurant.”
The avid foodie’s Valentine’s dinner menu will all depend on whether his date has a preference for white or red wine.
“If we’re having white, dinner will probably be a simple sea bass or salmon with roasted veggies and a salad. Rib-eye steak, with baked potato or mash and a mushroom sauce if it’s red wine.”
Of course, he will do the cooking because it’s one of the ways he expresses his love.
