5 Tips to help you quit smoking.
It has been something that’s been on your to-do list for some time now but just have not yet gotten around to doing it.
The reality is many smokers are keen to stop due to the associated health risks. Cigarette smoking is one of the leading causes of preventable death in the world.
However, quitting smoking can be challenging. 2022 could be the year you face the challenge.
If you’ve been considering quitting for some time there are a few proven ways to kick the habit.

With enough resolve, you can make it
If you’ve tried and failed in the past, don’t give up on yourself. Look back at the things your experience has taught you and think about how you’re really going to do it this time.
Change what you drink
Did you know that fizzy drinks, alcohol, cola, tea and coffee all make cigarettes taste better? So when you’re out, drink more water and juice. Some people find simply changing their drink (for example, switching from wine to vodka and tomato juice) affects their need to reach for a cigarette.
Set a date and stick to it
Make a promise, set a date and stick to it. Sticking to the “not a drag” rule can really help. Whenever you find yourself in difficulty, say to yourself, “I won’t even have a single drag”, and stick with this until the cravings pass. Think ahead to times when it might be difficult (a party, for instance), and plan your actions and escape routes in advance.

Identify when you crave cigarettes
A craving can last 5 minutes. Before you give up, make a list of 5-minute strategies. For example, you could leave the party for a minute, dance or go to the bar. And think about this: the combination of smoking and drinking raises your risk of mouth cancer by 38 times.
Make a list to remind you why you’ve quit
For those planning to quit “cold turkey,” making a list to stay motivated may help them when they experience difficulties.
These reasons may include: improving overall health, saving money, setting a good example for children, looking and smelling better, taking control and becoming free of dependence.
By continually reviewing the list, particularly during challenging moments, a person can train their mind to focus on the positive aspects of their goals and reinforce their will to quit.
