It’s been almost two weeks since the four Moti brothers were kidnapped. There are still no reports of ransom demands or the brothers’ whereabouts.
Last week, residents’ hopes were dashed after police rubbished claims that the boys were found.
A local publication claimed that Zia, Alaan, Zayyad and Zidan had been tracked down by police using cellphone technology. The report further claimed that a man and woman had been linked to the kidnapping and were taken to a police station in Benoni.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo says the report is incorrect.
“An article carried by a media house in the East Rand in Gauteng which suggests there have been arrests in an alleged kidnapping case is misleading. The South African Police Service, therefore, distances itself from the said article.
“The SAPS is again requesting that matters which are likely to place the lives of people at risk be handled with utmost sensitivity,” Naidoo says.

Moti brothers snatched on their way to school
On October 20, the Moti brothers were on their way to the Curro Heuwelkruin in Dalmada from their home in Nirvana, in Polokwane, when they were taken.
The family driver claimed that their BMW was blocked off by two vehicles at the Tzaneen bypass.
He further claimed that about seven men, dressed in white overalls, got out of the vehicles and fired at the BMW.
The men allegedly forced the boys out of the BMW and into a Mercedes-Benz and drove off. The suspects’ vehicles were last seen travelling on the R81 out of Polokwane. The motive behind the kidnapping forms part of a police investigation.
According to the Moti family’s lawyer, Philip Smit, the family has been advised not to speak to the media. Their father, Nazim Moti, is reportedly a wealthy businessman in Polokwane.
Anyone with information on the kidnapping should contact SAPS on the 24-hour Crime Stop number on 086 001 0111.
