Former Isibaya actress Thandeka Qwabe has opened a new chapter in her life and started a vegetable farm.
The 27-year old had to think quick after the drama series came to an end in 2021.
Thandeka completed a three-year drama and theatre diploma at Durban University of Technology, before furthering her qualifications with a BTech in film and drama at Tshwane University of Technology.
After landing the role in the series, her dreams were finally coming true. Until the show was cancelled and Thandeka needed a plan B.
Staying in Johannesburg didn’t make financial sense to the young star who headed back home to Umzimkhulu, southern KZN.
In June last year, Thandeka decided to start a vegetable farm and her cabbages are ready to be harvested.
Her goal was to start planting both spinach and cabbage but due to weather conditions, the spinach didn’t make it.
She now employs 10 people and has dreams of opening a boutique hotel on her farm.
The process was a long one as Thandeka had to learn how to get the soil soft with testing and chemicals.
She used whatever money she had to get the process going instead of giving up when she didn’t hear back from potential funders.
Thandeka Qwabe posted a video on Instagram showing the process.
