Mental health issues are a real big deal in our communities, and many people are go through a lot of traumas, loss, and depression.
Thomas and Skhumba spoke about the importance of finding an outlet to deal with what your issues.

Skhumba spoke about how in his circle of friends there’s rarely someone saying they are going through counseling. Whether to deal with loss, heartbreak, bereavement, losing custody of their kids, men typically don’t speak about their struggles with other men. There are different way people men typically hide what they are going through.
“Some of us decide to find things that are a distraction. I don’t know what you distract yourself with, some distract themselves with distract themselves with alcohol, sex, drugs, violence, I’ve seen some of my friends go quite for no reason.” says Skhumba
According to SADAG, men in South Africa still don’t consider counseling as a viable option to deal with mental health.
“Our society continues to perpetuate the myth of male strength and invincibility. Although the times are changing, many South African men still feel that it is “unmanly” to admit to weakness or vulnerability.

Find Someone you are comfortable with
You may find it helpful to talk to your partner, a relative or a friend about your problems. They may be concerned about you and welcome the opportunity to hear what you have to say.
