DJ Keyez does it again this week on The Ultimate Kaya 959 in this candid interview with songstress Amanda Black. The artist who has just released a new track ‘Let It Go’ talked to DJ Keyez about the inspiration behind her music.
Like many South African artists, the COVID-19 pandemic hit Amanda hard and she finds it tough being away from the stage, engaging with the audience she feeds off during live performances and just life before the new normal and lockdown.
“It’s been rough. We try to remain positive and there positives with the quiet that the lockdown brings. But I had a lot of plans which got dunked in the water. I can’t perform which means I can’t make money, so it’s not been easy. Mentally, psychologically it’s been tricky, I’ve just been taking it one day at a time.”
This week’s interview featured questions by Kaya 959 listeners and Amanda answered them comfortably.

Amanda feels like she was born for the stage and the pandemic and lockdown has taken a huge part of who she is. In 2019 Amanda’s album Power dropped and she’s back finding release in her new album Mnyama, her third and according to Amanda the most vulnerable she’s been.
She wrote songs that captured the emotions she was feeling during the lockdown, while most of her songs are about empowerment and uplifting, the songs on Mnyama are more conversations that Amanda had with herself.
