On 9 June 1976, the students of Naledi High in Soweto marched in protest against the apartheid education policies of the time, which required them to be taught in Afrikaans.
A few days later, the protests had spread like wildfire in the township, leading to the brutal killing of many youngsters by the police. June 16 has come to symbolise the fighting spirit of the Mzansi’s youth and is now celebrated as National Youth Day.
In recognition of the youth of that era, Thomas and Skhumba are asking young adults between the ages 18 and 35 to think about the many issues, challenges and obstacles standing in the way of them attaining their goals.
If your dream is to start a business, what are you doing to get the required capital? What ideas do you have that you can share with other young people? What can be done about the current state of education?
Kaya 959 wants you to contribute to a better future for yourselves as young people. Submit your ideas here and let’s make our future, together.
