French President Emmanuel Macron joined an infamous group of world leaders who have been physically attacked by members of the public.
On Tuesday 8 June while Macron was on a walkabout in the south of France, a man across the security barricade is seen slapping the French President on the face after shouting, “Down with Macronia”, in a video that has been circulating on the internet.
Other times leaders have been attacked like the French President
In 2008, Iraqi journalist Muntazer al-Zaidi threw his shoe at then US president George W. Bush. Bush managed to dodge the flying footwear but later made reference to the incident in his memoir saying, “I wish I had caught the damn thing. The guy had a pretty live arm.”

The former premier of Italy, Silvia Berlusconi lost two teeth and had his nose broken after he was attacked in Milan following a rally, and had to have plastic surgery.
In 1991 former German chancellor Helmut Kohl had eggs, tomatoes and paint thrown at him during a walkabout in eastern Germany. Kohl didn’t take it lying down. He started exchanging punches with the demonstrators.
The man who attacked Macron was quickly tackled by the President’s security and has allegedly been arrested.
