Love triangle gone wrong? Two women arrested for murder of ninth woman in Ekurhuleni

Police say the murder of Jabulile Ntimba is not linked to the other eight women found dead in Ekurhuleni.

Two women have been charged with murder and obstructing the course of justice following the killing of Jabulile Ntimba, whose body was found in Villaliza, near Dawn Park.

Ntimba’s lifeless body was found badly bruised, with her throat slit. Police said the case stems from a suspected love triangle.

Her death is the ninth reported woman’s body which was recovered in Ekurhuleni.

Police clarified that this case is not linked to the other eight Ekurhuleni killings.

Police also added that this is not the total number of women who have been killed in South Africa, nor are women only being killed in Ekurhuleni.

The focus is currently on the embattled city as bodies continue to be discovered across the city.

Based on investigations, police said they are not yet at a point where they can label the situation a serial killer scenario, saying the cases form part of a wider investigation.

During their briefing on Monday, 21 September 2026, police said that while there are similarities between some of the murder cases, they cannot conclude that a single perpetrator is behind them.

Phemelo speaks to Gauteng Portfolio Committee on Community Safety chairperson Dr Bandile Masuku about the latest developments and concerns around the safety of women.

“This is quite scary because it raises the question of the safety of women in general, but it also raises the question of our capacity to be where hotspots are. Kempton Park has over the years always been a problematic area in terms of kidnappings,” said Masuku.

Masuku says service delivery structures meant to help fight crime, such as cutting long grass and maintaining street lights, are either non-existent or not functional, which is a threat not only to women’s safety but Gauteng residents.

“The president declaring GBV as a national disaster has not really been effective because there has not been any other way of how to approach GBVF. There are a number of aspects that actually need to be done in terms of capacity and resources, so I do not think it has been fully implemented,” he added.

    1. Definitions and Interpretation

    1.1.“Personal Information” means information relating to an identifiable, living, natural person and where it is applicable, identifiable, existing juristic person, including all information as defined in the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013. 

    1.2  Parliament assented to POPIA on 19 November 2013. The commencement date of section 1, Part A of Chapter 5, section 112 and section 113 was 11 April 2014. The commencement date of the other sections was 1 July 2020 (with the exception of section 110 and 114(4). The President of South Africa has proclaimed the POPI commencement date to be 1 July 2020.

     
    1.3. “Processing” means the creation, generation, communication, storage, destruction of personal information as more fully defined in the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013.
