- Four women’s bodies have been discovered in the Kempton Park area within the space of two months, according to police.
- SAPS says detectives have identified concerning similarities in the circumstances surrounding the deaths and has urged women to avoid walking or exercising alone in isolated areas.
- The warning comes as police continue searching for missing runner Elizabeth Mokolo Moselakgomo, who disappeared after leaving home for an afternoon run.
Women have been urged to stay vigilant in the Kempton Park area, east of Johannesburg, following the discovery of the bodies of four women in the same area within the space of two months.
Police discovered the latest body on Saturday evening, 13 September 2026.
According to police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe, detectives have identified concerning similarities in the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
“Preliminary information gathered by detectives indicates concerning similarities in the circumstances surrounding the deaths. The bodies of the women were found half-naked and with visible bruising, and the discovery sites are located within the same vicinity,” said Mathe.
While investigations are still underway, Mathe said SAPS has not confirmed that the deaths are linked to a serial killer.
“The similarities are sufficiently concerning for the police to issue a warning and intensify investigations,” she said.
Women in and around Kempton Park are being urged not to walk or run alone, particularly in isolated areas.
They have also been advised to avoid secluded spaces, remain vigilant and, where possible, travel or exercise in groups.
SAPS is appealing to anyone who may have information that could assist the investigation, particularly residents, motorists, security personnel, and other members of the community who may have observed suspicious activity in the Rhodesfield and surrounding areas, to come forward.
Meanwhile, SAPS has intensified its efforts to find 38-year-old runner Elizabeth Mokolo Moselakgomo, who disappeared after leaving home for an afternoon run.
Moselakgomo reportedly left her home in Kempton Park for an afternoon run on Wednesday, 10 September 2026, but did not return.
The circumstances surrounding her disappearance remain under investigation.
Police have not indicated that Moselakgomo’s disappearance is connected to the discovery of the four bodies.
