A 16-year-old teenager has been arrested in Malmesbury, Western Cape, following a joint operation between the South African Police Service (SAPS) and international law enforcement.
The minor was caught in the act on Monday, 17 August 2026, and faces charges related to accessing, possessing, facilitating, and downloading child sexual abuse material.
The arrest followed intelligence provided by the FBI, Homeland Security Investigations, the US Embassy, and the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
Investigating officers linked the suspect to “764”, an international online extremist network known for blackmailing minors into sexual abuse and animal torture.
The raid was conducted by the National Serial and Electronic Crime Investigations (SECI) Team alongside specialized local units and US federal agents.
Highlighting the gravity of the operation, SAPS confirmed that a preliminary search revealed “explicit images and videos depicting child sexual abuse and animal mutilation.”
Forensic teams are currently analyzing the seized electronic devices to assess the full scale of the operation, with several child victims already identified.
The suspect is scheduled to appear in the Malmesbury Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 18 August 2026, whilst authorities investigate further potential offences involving fraud and money laundering.
