- Three suspects linked to alleged vehicle theft and signal jamming have been arrested following a shootout with JMPD officers in Johannesburg North.
- Officers tracked the suspects’ vehicle after receiving an alert from the Vuma Tracking Camera system.
- Two suspects were wounded during the incident, while the third was arrested unharmed.
Three suspects have been arrested following a shooting incident in Boskruin and Linden, Johannesburg North.
The suspects, who are allegedly linked to vehicle theft and signal jamming, were arrested by members of the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) on Thursday, 30 July 2026.
The officers were conducting routine visible policing when they received an alert regarding a suspicious vehicle operating in the Boskruin area that was reportedly involved in vehicle theft and signal jamming.
“The officers tracked the vehicle’s location and spotted it travelling along Malibongwe Drive. They monitored the vehicle until it pulled into a BP Service Station at the corner of Malibongwe Drive and Central Street in Linden,” said JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla.
Fihla said the driver of the vehicle attempted to speed off after noticing the approaching JMPD officers.
“The vehicle was occupied by three adult males. One of the passengers pointed a firearm at the officers, prompting them to discharge their firearms to neutralise the threat,” added Fihla.
The suspects’ vehicle came to a stop shortly after the shooting.
Two suspects sustained gunshot wounds, while the third suspect was arrested unharmed at the scene.
The two injured suspects were transported under police guard to Helen Joseph Hospital for medical treatment, while the uninjured suspect was arrested and processed at the Linden Police Station.
