The City of Cape Town has been ranked among the world’s most dangerous summer destinations for teenagers.
According to a July 2026 Teen Travel Safety Report released by iSharing, Cape Town ranked as the fourth riskiest destination for teenagers to visit during the summer months.
The study assessed destinations across seven safety categories. The crime index measured everyday crimes such as theft, assault and scams, while the homicide rate tracked the risk of violent deaths.
Human trafficking was also taken into account as an indicator of the risk of organised exploitation.
Healthcare quality was measured based on access to emergency medical care, while the political stability index reflected the overall level of peace and stability in each destination.
The report’s final safety score combined all seven categories, meaning the rankings are not based on crime alone.
Here are the 10 most dangerous summer destinations for teenagers:
- Mexico City, Mexico
- Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- Marrakech, Morocco
- Cape Town, South Africa
- London, United Kingdom
- New York, United States
- Athens, Greece
- Los Angeles, United States
- Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
- Paris, France
N.B The final safety score reflects all seven categories measured, including crime, homicide rates, healthcare quality, political stability, human trafficking risk, and summer heat. It is not based on crime alone.
