Corruption-accused businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala is expected to appear before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry next Tuesday to testify about alleged corruption within South Africa’s justice system.
Matlala’s appearance is reportedly subject to certain conditions, including a reported limitation that he will not be questioned on matters relating to the controversial Medicare24 contract.
Reports suggest Matlala wants to avoid answering questions that could affect ongoing legal proceedings linked to the tender.
However, the Madlanga Commission has declined to comment on whether any special conditions have been attached to the highly anticipated testimony.
Matlala is regarded as one of the commission’s key witnesses.
Several witnesses who have already appeared before the commission have testified about their alleged links to Matlala, including suspended Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) chief Julius Mkhwanazi and former KwaZulu-Natal Hawks head Lesetja Senona.
The Madlanga Commission says it won’t divulge any special conditions set up for alleged underworld kingpin Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala’s testimony next week.
