Motorists in the Pretoria Central and Sunnyside areas are advised to expect significant traffic disruptions on Tuesday, 30 June 2026, due to a planned protest march against undocumented foreign nationals.
The demonstration is scheduled to gather at Church Square at 10:00 and will conclude at the Sunnyside Police Station by 15:00. Strict parking restrictions will be enforced, and no vehicles will be permitted at the Church Square gathering point.
The March Route & Affected Streets
If you are commuting through the city centre or Sunnyside between 10:00 and 15:00, the marchers will move along the following specific route:
- Start: Church Square
- Left onto Paul Kruger Street
- Left onto Francis Baard Street
- Left onto Lillian Ngoyi Street
- Right onto Madiba Street
- Right onto Nelson Mandela Drive
- Left onto Kotze Street
- Left onto Van Boeschoten Avenue
- Right onto Robert Sobukwe Street
- Left onto Leyds Street
- Destination: Sunnyside Police Station
Recommended alternative routes
To avoid major gridlock, motorists are strongly urged to bypass the march route entirely and use the following alternative roads:
- Nana Sita Street
- Visagie Street
- Justice Mahomed Street
- Jeff Masemola Street
- Bosman Street
- Johannes Ramokhoase Street
- Struben Street
- Bloed Street
- Kgosi Mampuru Street
- Eskia Mphahlele Drive
Drop-Off zones and parking for participants
Please Note: No private vehicles or buses will be allowed to park at Church Square.
- Buses: A strict drop-off zone for buses is designated at the intersection of WF Nkomo Street and Bosman Street (Church Square entrance). Following drop-off, all buses must proceed to the Old Putco Depot in Marabastad for parking.
- Private Vehicles: All private vehicles must park at the open space located at the corner of Kgosi Mampuru Street and Madiba Street.
