- Ford and Stellantis South Africa have recalled selected Ford Transit, Ford Tourneo Custom, and Jeep Grand Cherokee models due to safety defects that could increase the risk of accidents.
- More than 600 Ford vehicles are affected by a faulty windscreen wiper system, while 82 Jeep Grand Cherokee models may have an incorrectly installed rear coil spring.
- Owners are urged to take their vehicles to authorised dealerships for free inspections and repairs.
Owners of certain Ford and Jeep vehicles are being urged to have their cars inspected after safety defects were identified that could increase the risk of road accidents.
The affected vehicles include selected Ford Transit and Ford Tourneo Custom models, as well as the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa has notified the National Consumer Commission (NCC) that it is recalling more than 600 Ford Transit and Ford Tourneo Custom models from the 2025 and 2026 model years.
The affected vehicles were sold nationally between 1 March 2025 and 20 May 2026.
According to the NCC, the recall is linked to a fault affecting the windscreen wiper system.
“The recall is due to a fault that may cause either gradual deterioration in wiper function or a sudden, complete loss of operation. This condition may reduce or eliminate windscreen visibility under certain driving conditions, increasing the risk of an accident,” said NCC spokesperson Pheto Ntaba.
Meanwhile, Stellantis South Africa (Pty) Ltd has also recalled 82 Jeep Grand Cherokee models sold between 2021 and 2023.
According to the supplier, the affected vehicles may have a rear coil spring that was not correctly installed during manufacturing.
The defect could cause the rear coil spring to detach while the vehicle is in motion, creating a serious hazard for the driver, passengers, and other road users.
In some cases, the vehicle could crash without warning, potentially resulting in injuries.
Consumers who own any of the affected models are urged to visit their nearest authorised dealership for an inspection and any necessary repairs, which will be carried out free of charge.
