A 27-year-old woman has been arrested and charged in connection with the deaths of her two sons, aged six and eight, in Limpopo.
Police have identified the accused as Thelma Siphungu Ntanganedzeni. She is alleged to have poisoned the children, although the exact cause of death is yet to be confirmed through post-mortem examinations.
According to Limpopo police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba, officers were called to the Tshilwavhusiku Health Centre at approximately 11:10am last week following reports of a child who was suspected to have been poisoned.
“On arrival, police were shown the lifeless body of a six-year-old boy lying on a bed,” said Ledwaba.
Later on the same day, police received a missing person report from a family member concerning an eight-year-old boy who had allegedly not returned home from school.
A search was launched, and the child was subsequently found dead at his home. Emergency Medical Services personnel declared him dead at the scene.
Police have opened an investigation, and forensic pathology post-mortem examinations will be conducted to determine the exact causes of death.
The motive for the incident remains unclear at this stage.
Ntanganedzeni is expected to appear before the Tshilwavhusiku Magistrate’s Court and to apply for bail on Monday, 08 June 2026.
