There’s something special about people who were raised by their grandparents. They often have a unique way of doing things, whether it’s drinking tea in the middle of a heatwave, refusing to leave the house without a vest on, or choosing a home cooked meal over takeaways.
On Feel Good with Andy Maqondwana, callers shared hilarious, touching, and relatable stories about the habits that instantly confirm a person was raised by their grandparents.
One caller admitted that some lessons from her grandmother have stayed with her for life.
“Yho, Andy, I’m guilty. I won’t wear anything without a vest underneath. Whether I’m wearing a summer dress or it’s a freezing winter day, I need a vest on.
“Another thing is that grandma’s children love home-cooked food. Takeaways are not that important to us. We also brush our teeth as soon as we wake up and change out of our pyjamas immediately. You won’t find us walking around the house in sleepwear all day.
“May my grandmother’s soul rest in peace.”
Another listener said a love for tea is one of the biggest giveaways.
“People who were raised by their grandparents love tea. Even when it’s hot, you’ll find them drinking tea because our grandparents made tea all the time, and we got used to sharing it with them.
“We also clean all the time. We never seem to finish cleaning. We’re obsessed with cleanliness, cooking, and baking. That’s us.”
For another caller, the strongest sign is found in a person’s values.
“I’m also a granny’s child. A grandmother teaches you how to pray and how to believe in God. One thing I’ve noticed is that many people who were raised by their grandparents also like to tuck in their shirts, tucked in properly, and looking sharp.”
Whether it’s a love for tea or incredibly good manners, one thing is clear: grandparents leave a lasting mark on the people they raise.
