If you regularly play the lottery or dream of hitting the jackpot one day, this is for you.

A major change has taken place. Sizekhaya Holdings took over the running of South Africa’s National Lottery on 1 June 2026.

But who exactly are these new operators, and what can players expect?

1. Say the name with confidence

Introducing Sizekhaya. Pronounced Si-Ze-Kha-Ya, this is the company that has taken over South Africa’s lottery.

The name means “we are coming home”, reflecting the belief that the lottery belongs to the people and is about building a trusted national asset.

2. They are potential game changers

After a rigorous bidding process, Sizekhaya Holdings was awarded the licence in late 2025 to become the fourth operator of the National Lottery.

They are not just taking over. They aim to raise the stakes and run the lottery effectively, helping thousands of organisations and charities across South Africa.

3. It’s proudly South African

Sizekhaya Holdings is a South African consortium founded in 2024 by businessmen Moses Tembe and Sandile Zungu.

By combining home-grown business expertise with world-class tech partners, they aim to increase participation among South Africans while delivering exceptional service.

4. Transparency and trust win big

The company’s licence is valid for eight years and Sizekhaya understands that South Africans want accountability.

They are committed to playing open cards with players, winners, beneficiaries, and the public.

5. Innovation takes centre stage

Sizekhaya is embracing smart, pioneering African solutions designed to modernise the lottery experience.

Players can expect greater accessibility, simpler playing experiences, and high-tech systems built to inspire trust.

6. Gaming for good

Beyond the dream of winning, every ticket contributes to building a nation.

Sizekhaya’s vision and mission are shaped by the idea that the National Lottery is about wealth redistribution. Funds from every ticket go through the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund to support projects where they matter most, including sports fields, community theatres, education, food kitchens, and life-saving charities.

Sizekhaya Holdings is a South African consortium founded in 2024 by businessmen and philanthropists Moses Tembe and Sandile Zungu.

The JSE-listed Goldrush Group has a 40% shareholding. Other shareholders include Bellamont Gaming and the National Empowerment Fund. Dividends are paid to an entity designated by the Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition.

In May 2025, Sizekhaya was named as the successful bidder for South Africa’s fourth National Lottery and Sports Pools licence, effective for eight years from 1 June 2026.

While Sizekhaya Holdings will operate the lottery, it will not allocate its proceeds to beneficiaries. This is done by the regulator, the National Lotteries Commission, by way of the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund.
