American rapper Cardi B has been found not liable in a civil assault lawsuit filed by her former security guard, Emani Ellis, who was seeking damages of R264 million.
A Los Angeles jury delivered the verdict yesterday, on 2 September 2025, bringing an end to the protracted legal battle.
Ellis had accused the musician of assault during an incident at a Beverly Hills doctor’s office in 2018.
She alleged that Cardi B, who was heavily pregnant at the time, spat on her and hurled insults.
However, Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, vehemently denied the claims.
During her testimony, she told the court that no physical contact had taken place and stated that the altercation stemmed from a violation of her privacy.
The jury’s decision came after three days of emotional testimony from both parties, underscoring the intense scrutiny and pressures that public figures often face.
The verdict marks a significant victory for the Grammy-winning artist, clearing her of all liability in the case.
