Anonymous shares that after his wife resigned from her toxic job, he spoke to his uncle, who owns several businesses, and helped her secure a role within one of them.
Some months later, he recently discovered in a staff meeting that she had been promoted, yet she had never mentioned anything about it at home.
Now, with a baby on the way, he cannot shake the unsettling feeling that something may be going on between his wife and his uncle.
Reaching out to The Best T in the City, he asks whether he is missing any blind spots that could be clouding his judgement.
“My uncle owns several businesses, and many of us nieces and nephews work for him. Two years ago, after I got married, my wife resigned from her toxic job. I spoke to my uncle, and she joined the company.
“About six months later, he moved her to another department where he felt she’d add more value. Last month, in a staff meeting, my uncle announced structural changes, including that my wife was being promoted to second in charge. I was shocked. Not once did she mention this to me, and what stung most was that she didn’t even look surprised.
“When I confronted her, she dismissed me, saying I was acting jealous and that I should just be happy for her. Of course, the promotion means more money for us, but I can’t shake off the fact that she and my uncle kept me in the dark. If she worked at another company, she would’ve told me about discussions for such a significant role, so why not here?
“We are 3 months pregnant, and this news should be making me happy, but there’s an unsettling feeling inside me about this whole thing. Am I being unfair for feeling angry? Or is my blind spot that I’m mixing family, marriage, and business in a way that clouds my judgment?”
