DStv has distanced itself from the Open Chats Podcast following public outrage over derogatory comments made about the coloured community in a recent episode.
The podcast, which has since been removed from the platform, sparked a heated debate across social media and drew criticism from prominent figures, including Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie.
The controversial remarks prompted McKenzie, who is also the leader of the Patriotic Alliance, to condemn the hosts’ statements.
He called for greater accountability and respect for marginalised communities.
In response, MultiChoice spokesperson Suzaan Keyter confirmed that the company had terminated its contract with Open Chats Podcast on 25 July.
The company stated that the show was pulled to make way for its new August content lineup.
“MultiChoice is aware of recent comments made on the “Open Chats Podcast,” Keyter said in a statement.
“The derogatory episode was not aired on our platform. MultiChoice adheres to stringent quality control processes and does not promote any discriminatory content.”
The company’s decision to remove the podcast underscores its commitment to upholding content standards and ensuring that its platform remains free of discriminatory material.
The incident highlights the growing public demand for accountability from media platforms and content creators regarding the content they produce.
