South African rapper Nasty C has transformed his record label, Tall Racks Records, into a digital platform aimed at giving artists more control over their careers.
The new model shifts away from traditional record labels, empowering musicians to become more independent and self-reliant.
In a social media post, Nasty C explained that the platform was designed to help artists “break free from the traditional way of the music business and take full control of their independence.”
This new approach functions more as a toolkit than a conventional label, offering a suite of services for artists.
The platform provides a range of tools for artists to manage their own music distribution, audience engagement, and finances.
A key feature is that musicians retain full ownership of their music rights, a significant departure from standard industry contracts. This move is intended to democratise the music business, making it easier for new talent to thrive without being constrained by traditional label structures.
The platform also offers global distribution to major streaming services and uses automated royalty splits through smart contracts, ensuring collaborators are paid promptly. Artists can withdraw their royalties directly to their bank accounts via a digital wallet system.
