The Super Falcons of Nigeria have secured their spot in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final, after a nail-biting 2-1 victory over rivals Banyana Banyana of South Africa in a captivating semi-final clash.
The intensely contested match saw Nigeria break the deadlock just before half-time. Captain Rasheedat Ajibade confidently converted a penalty in the 45th minute, sending the Super Falcons into the interval with a crucial lead.
However, the reigning champions, Banyana Banyana, showed their resilience in the second half. Linda Motlhalo found the back of the net, levelling the scores and setting up a tense finale. As the clock ticked past the 90-minute mark, it appeared the game might head into extra time.
