The Department of Home Affairs has extended its weekday operating hours by two hours from Monday, 07 July, until Sunday, 21 July 2025.
All Home Affairs offices will now close at 18h00 instead of 16h00 on weekdays.
The extended hours are aimed at easing pressure on learners who wish to apply for or collect their identity documents during the school holidays.
“To ease pressure on clients, Home Affairs has also introduced dedicated counters for collections in larger offices that process Smart ID Cards and passports, where space allows,” said Qoza.
“Clients also have the option to book application or collection appointments in advance using the Branch Appointment Booking System (BABS), available on the Home Affairs website: www.dha.gov.za, or directly via this link: https://services.dha.gov.za/#/authenticate/identity.”
The department further noted that walk-ins will still be accommodated for those who are not able to book online.
Minister of Home Affairs, Dr Leon Schreiber, encouraged the public to use the extended hours to collect outstanding documents.
“I would like to encourage all clients who have applied for their identification documents and have been waiting for three weeks or more to seize this opportunity by visiting their Home Affairs office to collect these critical documents at their convenience,”
