Two charred bodies were found inside a burnt house in Vosloorus, in the East of Johannesburg on Saturday, 21 June 2025.
Firefighters from the Zonkizizwe Fire Station responded swiftly to a house fire at the corner of Brickfield Road and Jupiter Street in Vosloorus, following a report of people trapped inside.
“On arrival, flames were knocked down, and the search and rescue were conducted following information on entrapment. Two charred bodies of an adult male and a toddler were found,” said the Emergency Services in Ekurhuleni.
“Gauteng Provincial Government Ambulance Services’ paramedics declared the two deceased on scene”.
Police investigations regarding the cause of the fire are underway.
This adds to the already high number of lives lost to winter fires in Gauteng.
In May, a devastating fire tore through a shack in the Marikana informal settlement in Kwa Thema, Ekurhuleni, killing six members of a family and leaving a 7-year-old girl with severe burn wounds.
