The South African Reserve Bank Governor (SARB), Lesetja Kganyago has been installed as Stellenbosch University’s 16th Vice Chancellor.
Kganyago was inaugrated on Friday, 20 June after being unanimously elected in January 2025.
He shared on social media that he is honoured to serve as the University’s16th Vice Chancellor and is looking forward to playing his part.

Governor Kganyago’s expertise in public policy has earned him recognition across the country. His academic achievements include honorary doctorates from prestigious institutions like Stellenbosch University and Nelson Mandela University.
He also holds a Master’s degree in Development Economics from the University of London and a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from the University of South Africa.
