Floyd Shivambu, recently ousted as Secretary General of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party, is set to hold a press conference tomorrow, Thursday, June 19, at noon, at the Mhulu Luxury Boutique Hotel in Glen Austin, Midrand.
While the briefing is seemingly about pressing national issues, the focus for many will be on Shivambu’s increasingly uncertain future within the MK Party.
Significant signs point to a potential fracturing of his relationship with the party.
His press conference announcement notably omitted the MK Party logo, and he was conspicuously absent from the party’s Youth Day rally in Durban on June 16, 2025.

Adding to the speculation, MK leader Jacob Zuma made comments during a recent Youth Day address that were widely seen as direct criticism directed at Shivambu when he said:
“If one of us goes astray, we don’t beg. Let me just tell you, we have already had seven secretaries general in the MK party. We did not beg them, even if they think they are big. You are loved, we don’t care,” Zuma said.
Shivambu’s current standing with the MK Party remains unclear, and tomorrow’s press conference is anticipated to clarify his position and perhaps reveal the extent of the fallout.
