Kelvin Momo, the acclaimed amapiano pioneer, has once again redefined the genre with his latest offering, Thato Ya Modimo.
The 29-track album, released on Friday, 30 May 2025, is not only a deeply personal reflection but also a record-breaking success, further solidifying Momo’s standing as a global music force.
Thato Ya Modimo wasted no time in making its mark, debuting at an impressive #8 on Spotify’s Top Global Albums chart—one of the highest positions ever achieved by an Amapiano album.
1.8 million streams
Domestically, it shattered records by becoming the most-streamed album in the first 24 hours on Spotify South Africa, racking up over 1.8 million streams.
This remarkable feat surpasses the previous record, which was, notably, held by Momo himself with his 2024 release, Sewe.
Within days of its release, Thato Ya Modimo soared past 10 million streams across all digital streaming platforms, demonstrating its immense popularity.
Furthermore, all 29 tracks from the album remarkably entered the Apple Music Top 50, a rare testament to the project’s consistent quality and overwhelming demand from listeners.
