After being a big part of The Real Housewives of Durban from the first episode, reality television star Nonku Williams has announced her departure from the show.
In a reflective statement shared on her social media, Nonku opened up about her decision to not only leave the show but also remove herself from the highly anticipated reunion episode.
“After much reflection, I’ve made the difficult decision not to return to the show and to distance myself from the reunion,” she wrote. “It’s not an easy choice, but it’s one I must make.”
She admitted that watching herself on screen had become a painful experience, one that made her question her own identity and values. She acknowledged her role in contributing to the drama but also pointed to the show’s format as part of the problem.
“The woman I see isn’t someone I recognise or respect. I’ve played a role in shaping this narrative, but I’m also a product of the show’s dynamics. The relentless pursuit of drama, the pitting of women against each other, the gossip, and the put-downs, it’s a toxic cycle that wears me down.”
Throughout her time on The Real Housewives Of Durban, Nonku has often found herself at the centre of controversy and viral moments.
Citing her responsibilities as a mother, a person of faith, and a public figure, she expressed her desire to pursue a more positive and impactful path.
“I want to make a difference, to leave a positive mark on the world. But this show, with its destructive tendencies, isn’t the platform for that.”
“I’m choosing to be a role model for my children and for others who may be watching. I’m choosing to prioritise my well-being and to take care of myself. I’m choosing to be authentic, to be true to myself, and to live a life that reflects my values.”
She hopes her departure sends a message of courage.
“I hope my story can serve as a testament to the power of self-awareness, courage, and redemption.”
